Connections is an exhibition that embraces the diverse ways in which individuals collaborate in the world of glass. It celebrates the myriad of paths through which people come together to pursue creative and technical goals. Whether these collaborations stem from shared ideas, technical expertise, or the partnership between gaffers and designers, Connections reflects the essence of collaborative spirit.
This exhibition emphasizes the role of conversations as the genesis of these partnerships, demonstrating how discussions spark innovative glasswork. Inside these walls, you'll discover a vibrant tapestry of artistic expressions and technical achievements, each piece representing a unique facet of collaborative creativity. Connections invites you to explore the multifaceted world of glass art collaboration, celebrating the individual talents of artists and the transformative power of teamwork.
In partnership with Refract: The Seattle Glass Experience, Schack Art Center will feature glass artist demonstrations in our Hot Shop October 13 + 15.
David Walters : Friday, October 13 from 12-5pm.
Jen Elek : Sunday, October 15 from 12-5pm.
GUEST CURATORS
Jen Elek
Utilizing bold colored blown glass, fabricated steel, neon tubes and electric light elements, Jen creates works that engage the viewer with landscapes of glass and light. Since graduating in 1994 from The New York school of Art and Design, Jen has worked in glass and metal, fabricating for many notable Northwest artists. Jen worked as a key member of Lino Tagliapietra’s glass blowing team for 15 years, and has taught and lectured at glass schools and colleges around the world. Jen shares a South Seattle studio with artist husband Jeremy Bert. She exhibits her work internationally, and is represented by Traver Gallery in Seattle and Schantz Gallery in Stockbridge, MA.
David Walters
Since graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1993, David has worked for renowned artists such as Dale Chihuly and Lino Tagliapietra, and has spent the last 18 years teaching and demonstrating around the world.
