Gelli printing is easy and fun! In this two-day workshop, students will use leaves, grasses, and blossoms to create several simple and charming compositions printed in different color combinations on a variety of papers. Students will be provided with a gel plate, brayer, paint, papers, and botanicals to incorporate into the designs of their choice. On day two of the workshop, students can cut, collage, and reassemble their prints into finished works for home decor, note cards, journal additions, and more. The only limit is your imagination!
Please bring to class an apron to protect clothing and any papers you think might be fun to use as well as a botanical collection of simple forms that will lie flat on the plate.

Gel Printing with Drawing Media

In this workshop, students will learn how to use various drawing media with a gel plate for printmaking. We’ll draw directly on our plates using acrylic and water-based markers and try transfer techniques using oil pastels and graphite.
This class is intended for students who have already taken a beginning gel printing workshop or have some experience using a gel plate.

Discover methods of combining paper, fiber, imagery, and acrylic to create inspirational artwork.
In this workshop, you will learn to develop patterns and textures using Acrylic Paints, Mediums, Gels, Grounds, and Pastes. Explore techniques for building surfaces with smooth or textured, transparent or translucent layers. Understand which products are best for drawing media, water media, image transfers, and gluing, while gaining insight into the unique qualities of each product.
Move beyond traditional notions of collage as this workshop expands your vocabulary of methods and approaches, offering new pathways for your individual artwork. This class is open to all levels.
The instructor will demonstrate various techniques and answer questions throughout the workshop. Each artist will create samples of different products, processes, and techniques, documenting each detail to serve as a valuable future reference. A class summary will be provided to support continued independent exploration. All products are graciously provided by Golden Artist Colors.
Students should bring the following:
- pre-cut white mixed media board, mat board, or illustration board (10-12 pieces, range of sizes no smaller than 4”, no larger than 10” )
-Clear plastic sheeting (found in most hardware stores near paint tarps); will be used in the transfer process, underneath especially drippy samples while working, on the floor for additional drying space & at the end of the class to help in transporting wet samples.
- box lids or trays for drying & transporting wet samples
- Personal imagery, artwork, photography, or drawings; Black/White, color copies (laser prints not inkjet)
- Found papers, fibers, textiles or objects
- Apron or paint shirt (Dress for mess!)
Most other supplies & tools are provided by the instructor.

Collaging Your Way to Collagraphy

Location: Schack Art Center, Printmaking Studio
This two-session class focuses on collagraphy, a method of printmaking using glue and collage to create a printable surface. Through a variety of techniques, ink is applied and transferred to paper by use of a printing press. In the first session, students learn how different collage techniques translate to print and create their own collages to print from the following week.
Please bring something to take notes with such as a sketchpad or notebook and ideas for imagery.
