Learn the art of creating small glass pumpkins by heating glass rods with a bench-mounted torch and transferring the molten glass onto the end of a stainless steel mandrel. Master the skill of controlling the glass and forming it into a sphere, which you will then shape into a pumpkin while it is still molten. This workshop serves as a great introduction to the basics of manipulating hot glass on a very small scale.
Students will gain confidence in lighting a lampworking torch, melting "soft glass" rods in the flame, transferring glass onto a mandrel, making a round glass shape, and shaping glass with a blade. Each student will create a few to several tiny glass pumpkins, depending on their individual pace.
All supplies are provided. Please wear cotton clothing without draped sleeves and closed-toed shoes.
