This course is designed for beginners and intermediate glass enthusiasts who wish to explore the intricate art of borosilicate flameworking. Throughout the four-week duration, students will delve into the fundamental techniques, safety protocols, and artistic expressions of working with borosilicate glass.
Week one we will focus on safety, tools, and colors, and students will get the opportunity to make small solid pieces. Week two will focus on building with pieces and welding techniques. Week three will focus on hollow work, how to weld hollow glass, and finishing off projects from the previous weeks.

In this introductory level class we will begin with learning how to make a simple lampwork bead with "soft glass" (Effetre). After practicing pulling stringer and making dots, we will put everything together to make cute little bee beads! Each student will also have the opportunity to make a bee houseplant decoration or two by creating a bee on the end of a thin stainless steel rod. As time permits, everyone may also try out small glass flower presses.

Students will learn how to safely light and use a bench-mounted torch. They will learn how to melt a glass rod to create a gather of molten glass on the end, and learn to use tools to transform that gather into an icicle
Students should go home with several small icicles.
