This course is designed for beginners and intermediate glass enthusiasts who wish to explore the intricate art of borosilicate flameworking. Throughout the four-week duration, students will delve into the fundamental techniques, safety protocols, and artistic expressions of working with borosilicate glass.
Week one we will focus on safety, tools, and colors, and students will get the opportunity to make small solid pieces. Week two will focus on building with pieces and welding techniques. Week three will focus on hollow work, how to weld hollow glass, and finishing off projects from the previous weeks.

Ceramic Garden Gnomes

Fused Glass Wrought Iron Garden Stake

You will be creating a beautiful wrought iron fused glass garden stake to add a splash of color in your yard or on your patio.
Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will have the opportunity to use transparent and/or opalescent colored glass on a clear base along with frit, stringers, and nuggets. You will be given tips on design and layout to create your own unique garden stake.
You will make a 2 3/4” x 24” fused glass panel to insert into a wrought iron garden stake that stands approximately 43” high. Class includes all supplies and the garden stake.
Glass will be fired outside of class and ready for pick up at the Schack Art Center at a later date.

Welcome to the wonderful world of mosaics. In this introductory workshop, you will learn the techniques to create mosaics.
The students will learn how to cut and nip glass, different adhesives, substrates, tesserae, and grouting methods used in creating mosaics.
In this course, the student will learn 3 different techniques, glass on wood, glass on glass, and the indirect method of mosaics.
We will create mosaic coasters, a glass sun catcher mosaic, and an indirect cast mosaic.

Gel Printing with Botanicals

In this workshop, students will be introduced to Gel Plate Printmaking using an 8" x 10" gel plate and acrylic paint. We’ll learn to work with leaves, ferns, branches, and flowers to build unique botanical gel prints. Our goal will be to create botanical monoprints and monotypes that can stand on their own, but gel-printed papers are also excellent material for collages, cards, art journals, or other mixed media projects.
Unlike many traditional printmaking techniques, gel printing has a minimal setup and does not require the use of a press, making it possible to do it from almost anywhere.
Students will learn:
A basic understanding of how paints and papers may impact gel prints including thick vs. thin papers, opaque vs. transparent layers, and “What is the right amount of paint?”
• How to use botanical items, such as leaves, ferns, and flowers as textures and masks for gel printing.
• How to clean, care for, and store a gel printing plate.

You will be creating a beautiful wrought iron fused glass garden stake to add a splash of color in your yard or on your patio.
Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will have the opportunity to use transparent and/or opalescent colored glass on a clear base along with frit, stringers, and nuggets. You will be given tips on design and layout to create your own unique garden stake.
You will make a 2 3/4” x 24” fused glass panel to insert into a wrought iron garden stake that stands approximately 43” high. Class includes all supplies and the garden stake.

You will also learn how to sharpen and hone your tools to keep them razor-sharp. This type of small object can be a bit more delicate than carving a spoon, so it's great practice. In this 5-hour workshop, we will dive into the world of eco-printing. Together we will create dye baths, use leaves and flowers to create a nature-inspired pattern on cotton fabric, and learn how to shift colors using iron.
This workshop will be both informative and experimental. Come ready to learn, play, and have fun with natural dye. By the end of the workshop, workshop participants will understand how to prep their own dye bath, what is involved in applying natural color to cotton, and how to use iron to “shift color” and create vivid effects on cotton fabric. Each workshop participant will walk away with two naturally dyed cotton samples and their own naturally dyed cotton bandanna.
Please bring:
• Apron (or wear clothes you don't mind getting a little messy)
• Dish gloves (optional but nice if you don't want to get dye on your hands)
• Wear comfortable/closed-toed shoes
• Lunch, water (we will have a 1-hour lunch break)

Students will make four fused panels to insert into a wrought iron lantern 11"h x 6"w x 6"d. The class includes all supplies and the lantern.

Students will explore the art of fiber preparation and dyeing, discovering plants that thrive in their very own backyard, locally foraged treasures, and effective techniques for extracting vibrant pigments from dye sources. Through hands-on experience, they will craft exquisite dye card samples and have the opportunity to dye yarn or a silk scarf, showcasing a spectrum of colors that truly reflect their individual creativity.
Students can bring a notebook to take notes in and a jar or two if they want to take home leftover colors to try dyeing at home. A small quantity of wool or silk to dye additional fiber in class (if there is leftover dye).

You will be creating a beautiful wrought iron fused glass garden stake to add a splash of color in your yard or on your patio.
Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will have the opportunity to use transparent and/or opalescent colored glass on a clear base along with frit, stringers, and nuggets. You will be given tips on design and layout to create your own unique garden stake.
You will make a 2 3/4” x 24” fused glass panel to insert into a wrought iron garden stake that stands approximately 43” high. Class includes all supplies and the garden stake.
Glass will be fired outside of class and ready for pick up at the Schack Art Center at a later date.

Gelli printing is easy and fun! In this two-day workshop, students will use leaves, grasses, and blossoms to create several simple and charming compositions printed in different color combinations on a variety of papers. Students will be provided with a gel plate, brayer, paint, papers, and botanicals to incorporate into the designs of their choice. On day two of the workshop, students can cut, collage, and reassemble their prints into finished works for home decor, note cards, journal additions, and more. The only limit is your imagination!
Please bring to class an apron to protect clothing and any papers you think might be fun to use as well as a botanical collection of simple forms that will lie flat on the plate.

Learn how to create unique monoprints without a press using a gel printing plate. In this class, we'll use an 8" x 10" gel plate with acrylic paint, found textures, and DIY stencils and stamps. We'll work to create prints that can stand on their own, but gel-printed papers are also wonderful for collages, cards, art journals, or other mixed-media projects.
Unlike many traditional printmaking techniques, gel printing has minimal setup and is easy to do almost anywhere.
Students will learn:
Techniques for creating layered prints using a gel plate and acrylic paint.
How to use homemade stencils/masks and found objects to create interesting textures in your prints.
A basic understanding of how different paints and papers may impact your finished prints.
How to use, care for, and store a gel printing plate.
Students will create monoprints and a variety of printed papers using a gel plate. These prints may also be used for collages, cards, art journals, or other mixed-media projects.

Gel Printing with Botanicals

In this workshop, students will be introduced to Gel Plate Printmaking using an 8" x 10" gel plate and acrylic paint. We’ll learn to work with leaves, ferns, branches, and flowers to build unique botanical gel prints. Our goal will be to create botanical monoprints and monotypes that can stand on their own, but gel-printed papers are also excellent material for collages, cards, art journals, or other mixed-media projects.
Unlike many traditional printmaking techniques, gel printing has a minimal setup and does not require the use of a press, making it possible to do it from almost anywhere.
Students will learn:
A basic understanding of how paints and papers may impact gel prints including thick vs. thin papers, opaque vs. transparent layers, and “What is the right amount of paint?”
• How to use botanical items, such as leaves, ferns, and flowers as textures and masks for gel printing.
• How to clean, care for, and store a gel printing plate.

The students will learn how to cut and nip glass, different adhesives, substrates, tesserae, and grouting methods used in creating mosaics.
In this course, the student will learn 3 different techniques, glass on wood, glass on glass, and the indirect method of mosaics.
We will create mosaic coasters, a glass sun catcher mosaic, and an indirect cast mosaic.

Intro to Lampwork Glass - Tiny Glass Hearts

Creating tiny glass hearts is a fun introduction to sculpting with glass. Using rods of borosilicate glass and bench-mounted flameworking torches, students will learn how to melt and shape glass. Different methods of applying color will be covered.
Students will learn how to safely operate a flameworking torch and how to use the flame to melt and shape borosilicate glass into heart shapes. We will also experiment with applying frit and stringer to the hot glass for added color and decoration.
Students will make several small (3/4"-1") glass hearts.

You will be creating a beautiful wrought iron fused glass garden stake to add a splash of color in your yard or on your patio.
Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will have the opportunity to use transparent and/or opalescent colored glass on a clear base along with frit, stringers, and nuggets. You will be given tips on design and layout to create your own unique garden stake.
You will make a 2 3/4” x 24” fused glass panel to insert into a wrought iron garden stake that stands approximately 43” high. Class includes all supplies and the garden stake.
Glass will be fired outside of class and ready for pick up at the Schack Art Center at a later date.

Welcome to the wonderful world of mosaics. In this introductory workshop, you will learn the techniques to create mosaics.
The students will learn how to cut and nip glass, different adhesives, substrates, tesserae, and grouting methods used in creating mosaics.
In this course, the student will learn 3 different techniques, glass on wood, glass on glass, and the indirect method of mosaics.
We will create mosaic coasters, a glass sun catcher mosaic, and an indirect cast mosaic.

Acrylics are one of the most versatile media ever invented! Bright, luminous colors, ease of use, and infinite techniques make acrylic painting a boundless, creative choice. Whether you are intrigued by acrylic's potential or have worked in acrylic for years, this class has something for everyone!
We will cover the basics of composition, light & shadow, color harmony, and perspective. You will have the opportunity to paint a variety of subjects: landscapes, animals, plants, national parks, birds, sailboats, still lifes. We will delve into some of the alternative techniques acrylics has to offer: washes, layering, dripping, sponging, spraying, textured mediums, collage, etc! Expand your creative horizons in this fun and informative class!

Gel Printing with Drawing Media

In this workshop, students will learn how to use various drawing media with a gel plate for printmaking. We’ll draw directly on our plates using acrylic and water-based markers and try transfer techniques using oil pastels and graphite.
This class is intended for students who have already taken a beginning gel printing workshop or have some experience using a gel plate.

Watercolor is known for its soft, transparent color and its unique texture. In this workshop, students will go over color mixing and color theory to choose the right balance of color for their own unique piece. Next, they will be led through the floral painting process by local artist Jenna Brechbiel.

Beginning students will learn how to fabricate jewelry from metal sheet and wire. Begin with basic skills such as forging, soldering, and setting cabochon stones. Learn to use a jeweler's saw and other hand tools.

This introductory class provides a foundation for stained glass using, the Copper Foil Technique. We will cover designing projects for glass, the art of glass cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, finishing, and presentation. Students will select from 5 designs provided to create a copper foil panel.
All supplies provided.
Purchasing your own oil glass cutter from the instructor is recommended, after trying the different styles. All other tools will be provided.
